1949 Buick Super

06/02/05

May was sort of busy trying to get back to where I left off on the project. I finished the fender patch and put another coat of epoxy primer on both fenders.

I also block sanded the entire car and just realized how close I am to painting. I touched up a few spots here and there and will sand again until everything is perfect.

During the sanding process I found a couple of "dimples" on the trunk lid that I was not aware of until now. They were small so I just filled them with spot putty. These were no doubt handprints from pushing it at one time, I am sure anyone with an old car has been pushed at one time or another. I will have to be very careful of this in the future.
I will probably sit back and check how flat and straight the body is under different lighting conditions to make sure I did not miss anything. I am paranoid that I will find other things like the trunk lid spots.

I think I have come up with a plan on how to paint this car. I am planning on cutting in all the jambs on the body, doors, trunk lid, hood etc. and then reinstall and fit everything up. I will then mask the jamb areas to prevent over spray on them and paint the car mostly assembled.

Hopefully, paint day will be sometime at the beginning of July.
