It finally seems that there is an end in sight although it most likely won't be this year. Some of the chrome work will
just be too expensive and take too long to get it done this year.
I never realized how long chrome shops keep your parts. Small parts run anywhere from a 4-6 weeks and bumpers are taking as long as 2-3 months. I am told this is just due to their workload.
All the door glass in back in and functional. I will be re-installing the interior door panels soon.
Re-chromed port holes were installed
Every piece of stainless from the door handles down is NOS except for the "upper" trim that surrounds the windows because that only required buffing. Many pieces of my stainless were in good shape
except that they had a pitting in them that was just too deep to sand out, so I just went for the NOS since it was available. The gravel guards were fine with no dents, but I just couldn't sand
the marks out.
All new door/window rubber
All new vent tubing
Many misc. parts being re-chromed
Re-chromed outside door handles
New Firestone wide whites on there way
Things that still need to be done:
Rear carpet
trunk detail
radio antenna
Buick Eight trunk emblem
passenger side rear quarter "spear"
Looking to winter already, I think the main focus will be getting the front grille re-chromed. I will have to be sitting down when I get prices on that one!!
I am most likely going to repaint the hood in the next week or so. There are a few spots on it, and a scratch that has bothered me since day one and I just can't ignore them any longer.
Stop back as I will update as I progress and thanks for visiting 49buick.com
These go over the door hinges in the jambs
re-chromed door handles
Engine bay is just about all detailed and complete
All new vent hose
re-chromed port holes
I say it is impossible to re-install some of this trim without some accidents, Touch up time (before)
(After)
NOS gravel guards and side trim
